Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition that affects muscle control and motor skills. It’s caused by damage to the brain, usually around the time of birth. Its effects vary greatly from person to person: some experience mild stiffness or coordination issues, while others may need more support in daily life.

Living with CP often requires extra creativity, perseverance, and planning. Tasks that may seem simple to others, like getting dressed, writing, or climbing stairs, can take more time and energy. The world around you isn’t always adapted, and understanding isn’t always a given.

Yet many people with CP find their own path. Independence, humor and adaptability often play key roles. They learn to move differently, think creatively and above all: to keep going. Because while CP affects how you move, it says nothing about who you are or what you’re capable of achieving.

“With cerebral palsy, you may move at a different rhythm but the pace of your ambition is yours to set.”

People with CP go to school, work, travel, build relationships and continue to challenge themselves. The condition is part of their life, but it doesn’t define their story.

For many, sport is a powerful tool, not just physically, but mentally. It builds muscle, balance and stamina, but it also brings confidence, freedom and a sense of purpose.

Whether you're training recreationally or chasing a Paralympic dream, sport is not about perfection. It's about showing up, giving it your best, and enjoying the journey. In disciplines like para athletics, swimming, triathlon, boccia, or cycling, athletes with CP push limits, not despite their condition, but with it and everything it has taught them.

They prove that starting from a different line doesn’t mean you can’t go far.
