About Me

I am Gitte Welslau, a passionate and driven paratriathlete from Belgium. I compete in the PTS2 category, where I combine three sports (swimming, cycling, and running) into one incredible challenge: triathlon.

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved movement and competition. But it was triathlon that truly stole my heart. The constant variety, the physical and mental challenge and the chance to outgrow myself every single time, that’s what keeps me coming back. No race is ever the same. Every start line is a new story. Every finish line is a personal victory.

I have cerebral palsy (CP), which means my muscles don’t always move or respond the way I want them to. Some people might call that a limitation. I don’t. For me, it’s simply a different set of conditions to work with. It pushes me to be creative in how I train, it forces me to listen to my body, and it teaches me to appreciate every little step forward. I believe that strength isn’t just about power or speed, it’s about mindset, resilience and the courage to keep going.

In October 2024, I raced in Alhandra, Portugal, my very first World Triathlon Para Cup. It was an unforgettable experience. I was the only athlete in my category that day, but I didn’t just race against time. I raced to prove something to myself. I finished second overall among all female para-athletes (PTS 2-3-4) and stood on that podium with a heart full of pride.

Then, in June 2025, something truly special happened: I became European Champion in the PTS2 category at the European Paratriathlon Championships in Besançon, France. It was my first European Championship ever and I took gold. That moment meant everything to me. It was the result of countless hours of training, sacrifice, recovery and belief. Standing there, hearing my name and my country called, it still gives me goosebumps.

But my journey doesn’t stop here. I’m constantly working to become stronger, faster and smarter as an athlete. I train with a clear goal: not only to improve my own performance, but also to show others what is possible, no matter your starting point.

Through this website and socials, I want to bring you along on my journey. I’ll share my training experiences, competitions, challenges and what it means to grow as both a person and an athlete. Because this story isn’t just about sport, it’s about mindset, identity and what happens when you dare to believe in yourself.

Thanks for being here.
Let’s go further together.
